Description
Mag-Clean by SuperFish are floating algae magnets designed for cleaning aquarium glass easily.
These magnetic tools are a must have for any type of glass aquarium!
What are floating algae magnets?
Mag-Clean floating algae magnets coms apart into two separate sections. The smooth side goes on the outside of the glass so that it can buffer and gently. In addition, this side polishes the outside of your aquarium. The in tank side has a more rough texture. It is designed to be tough enough to clean the inside of your tank without scratching it.
Warning!
Make sure that you never get too close to the substrate, especially if you have sand. Because, if you are not careful, you could pick up a grain of sand and scratch the glass. Here at Cornwall Aquatics, we clean with an algae magnet to a couple of centimetres above the substrate, then use a blade tool to clean near to the substrate when we have our hands in the tank for maintenance. Use the magnet to clean quickly and as often as you wish. If you clean daily, you will avoid harder algae building up and it only takes a minute or two.
We love that floating algae magnets mean you don’t even get your hands wet! If the inside magnet becomes detached it will float up to the top of the tank and you can recover it with the outside magnet through the glass.
What size floating algae magnet do I need?
If you find that the inside half of the magnet detaches, it likely means that you have the wrong sized magnet. The Mag-Clean that you choose needs to be of an appropriate strength for your thickness of glass.
Here are the recommendations for glass thickness:
- Small size – for glass thickness of up to 5mm (usually tank size will be less than 125 litres)
- Medium size – for glass thickness of up to 10mm (usually tank size will be less than 500 litres)
- Large size – for glass thickness of up to 16mm (usually tank size will be less than 1250 litres)
If you have stubborn or hard algae spots have a look at the Bladerunner glass cleaner which is also a useful aquarium tool. This magnet works in the same way, but has the option of plastic or metal blades instead of the rough side. And so, they will tackle harder algae.
