Description
High quality flexible aquarium hose by Superfish is useful for many reasons when you are a fishkeeper! Here’s just a few uses…
Flexible aquarium hose for external filters
The most popular use for this type of hose is to replace external filter pipework. These kink-free hoses are rigid enough to ensure a safe hose connection for use with almost any make of external filter. Always check which size of pipe that you need. Some small externals use 9/12mm, but most external filters use 12/16mm pipe. The BioMaster & BioMaster Thermo external filters that we sell all use 12/16mm hose.
For best filter performance, and for worry free filter operation, it is worth replacing old worn hoses.
Regular maintenance
Mainly for siphoning, or to replace hose on an old gravel cleaner. We use hoses pretty often when doing our regular aquarium maintenance. A larger hose will siphon more quickly, and so is handy if you need to do a fast water change. The thinner hoses are great for picking up debris on the surface of aquarium sand or substrate. Just hover the end of the flexible aquarium hose a couple of centimetres above the substrate so that you are only siphoning out waste and not the substrate that you wish to stay in your fish tank.
Reactors, and other aquarium filters
Another time that you might need these kind of hoses, is when connecting a water pump to a BioPellet reactor or media reactor. These are often used in marine sumps to control waste levels, although they can be used in freshwater sumps and externally to an aquarium too. Again always check which size of pipe that you need, but most aquarium pumps use one of these two sizes. If you need a larger flexible hose, please feel free to get in touch as we might have other sizes in stock in our physical store.
