Microsorum pteropus

Description

Microsorum pteropus Latifola is a tropical aquarium plant. It is a type of ‘Java Fern’. This plant is easy to keep. It can grow to around 50cm tall and will thrive in low to medium light levels.

The ideal temperature range for his plant is between 22 – 28 degrees Celsius.

Being a tall plant, it is best placed in the mid to background of an aquarium. You can also attach any type of Java fern to aquarium wood, rocks and other fish tank decorations to give more interest to the scape.

All of our potted plants arrive with rockwool around the roots, please take the plants out of the pot and gently remove the rockwool. Plant the roots into a suitable substrate or glue the rhizome onto aquarium decor to guarantee proper growth. Never cover the rhizome when planting Microsorum pteropus into a substrate (only plant the roots that come from the rhizome).

This plant comes in a 5cm pot. It is suitable for any size aquaria and paludaria.

Adding plants to your fish tank can help to keep the tank cleaner. This is because aquarium plants, in part, utilise fish waste to grow. So they can help to lower nitrate and phosphate levels. If your waste levels are high, we would recommend regular maintenance to help reduce them.

Light, CO2 & nutrition

To keep your plants flourishing you need to make sure that they get enough light, CO2 and nutrition.

Microsorum pteropus Latifola like low to medium light level intensity. For most tanks, 6 – 8 hours of light is about right because if you leave the lights on for too long you can end up with algae problems.

This plant is not too fussy about CO2. However, if you have a CO2 system it will benefit your tropical plants and it will help this plant to grow and carpet better.

We recommend feeding all aquarium plants with a high quality plant food like Ferropol or Plant Food+.
